![]() ![]() In 2007, the Mariani brothers acquired a former turkey farm with 256 acres three miles east of the Sonoma Town Square in Carneros. to make wine from their own winery in Carneros. After working at wineries in Europe, they came back to the U.S. The Mariani brothers grew up in Winters, California farming walnuts and almonds, and enjoyed it enough that they longed for a life in agriculture. Owners, and brothers, Adam and Andrew Mariani are 4th generation farmers producing vibrant wines that express an unmistakable sense of place unique to Northern California, particularly Sonoma. Be sure to ask to see their cellar of back vintages that is under the home, quite a site to see and may be a nice break from the heat as the ambient temperature in there appeared to be in the low 60's, high 50's to me. With our tasting, we were also provided with some olives, nuts, and I think crackers a mini picnic if you will! There was a beautiful beagle mix dog that spent a lot of time with us, hiding out under our table and just adding to the delight of our day. The skins of the grape sit on the wine much longer than normal, giving this the body of a red wine with a delicious white. ![]() The one that stuck out the most to me that I really enjoyed was the skin fermented Chardonnay bottled in 500 ml bottles. My wife and I tasted through several wines, five I believe, and took quite a few home. We were seated at a picnic table that was shaded by one of the many trees but still offered up a beautiful view. After winding our way along dirt roads (I took a wrong turn) and being directed by one of the farm hands we came across Scribe which is situated on what you may call a knoll or a rolling hill, overlooking several acres of grapes. Seeing as our day would take us over to Sonoma I quickly found them online, called, and had a reservation for two later that day with no trouble. We happened upon Scribe as a recommendation from our host at Robert Sinskey in Napa, he said they were making some fun white wines and had great views. ![]()
